I’m still pinching myself and getting used to the idea that I’ve reached the biggest dream I’ve had for the past few years. It’s very very exciting.

As I’ve explained before, I’m an introvert. So this whole surface design experience has pushed me way out of my comfort zone. And that’s okay. Change is good. It’s made me realise just how determined I can be. On reflection, as I get older I am becoming more accepting of myself which has allowed me to grow.

So how did it come about?

After waking up really early one morning and reading another designer’s Instagram post announcing she’d signed with a fabric company I decided to take action. I made a phone call. And yes, I was shaking afterwards, but I was so glad I did. I took action. I am truly blessed.

So what now? Designing a fabric collection of course! My head is filled with possibilities. Colour palettes, motifs, themes, inspiration gathering, naming the designs and the collection. Perhaps even creating a quilt pattern. And making lots of decisions. What fun!!

I can now really indulge and let my mind wander with thoughts of how it will feel going into a store and seeing my designs on their shelves. Just imagine. And knowing that people are using fabric with my designs to make beautiful things they will cherish.

There’s a lot more learning to be done. And I’m so happy to be doing the learning. My designing now has a real purpose. And I’m thrilled to be filling my days doing what I love.
